Hello Seeds Families and Friends,
As 2025 comes to a close and we gather with our families to celebrate the holidays, I believe it is important to take some time after all the presents have been unwrapped and the holiday tables have been cleared to reflect on the year that has passed and look toward the year ahead.
We are consistently bombarded with messages about investing for the future, the state of the economy and planning for the days ahead when it comes to our finances, but the children we steward are what is truly most important to us in relation to how to invest our time, talent and resources.
We love our children so much and truly want what is best for them, but even with our best intentions to teach them and lead them well, we are easily swept into the priorities of the culture around us pulling us into temporary activities and busyness (music lessons, sports, drama, etc.) at the expense of making time for intentionally investing in our them spiritually.
It is critical that we stop at the end of this year and ask the question that Jesus asked his disciples at a pivotal moment in his ministry. This question should be a filter for us as parents and our families as we make decisions about how we will invest our time.
Jesus asked them, “And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? “ Mark 8:36-37 (NLT)
Simply put, there is nothing more important than our souls and the souls of our children.
In light of that, I am encouraging you to consider these 3 questions at the end of 2025 related to how you invest in the souls of your children. This applies to all of us as parents, but also to those of you that our ministry leaders connected with Seeds Kids Worship.
Here are soul-searching questions for you to consider:
1. How well am I investing my time, talent and treasure into my personal relationship with Jesus?
- We can’t give our children something we do not possess ourselves.
- Deuteronomy 6:4-7 begins with the parents acknowledging that there is only one God and with their commitment to love Him and pursue Him in His Word.
- Are you spending regular time personally in God’s Word and consistently walking with other believers in a church community?
2. If you are married, how well are you investing in your marriage relationship?
- Take time to pray and ask God to reveal to you the current state of your marriage and how he wants to work in your relationship in the upcoming year?
- Read and meditate on (read many times with prayer) Ephesians chapters 5 and 6 and deeply consider what it means to “submit to one another out of reverence for Christ” and ask for what the Lord is calling you to do to love and respect your spouse in greater ways.
3. How are you making it a priority to teach your children about how following Jesus?
- Deuteronomy 6 highlights for us how to teach our children about the Lord as we do life together…in our homes, as we go, in the morning when we wake up and at night when we go to bed.
- Did you have an investment strategy to spiritually impact your children in 2025? If so, good job and keep making the investment again this year. If not, what can you do to begin to intentionally and regularly invest in your children in 2026?
I am going to circle right back to Jesus' words,
“Is there anything more important than our children’s souls?
If you feel convicted by this, I believe it is a blessing from God and drawing of the Holy Spirit in your heart to pursue God in greater ways as a family. If you are feeling condemnation, that is not from the Lord, but from the enemy of your soul. Listen to the Holy Spirit and ignore the voice of the enemy.
God will meet you exactly where you are, but He is looking for your commitment. If you are convicted that other activities have hijacked your priorities, go ahead and repent and receive the gift of forgiveness that Jesus bought for you. This is the Good News! He is the Redeemer and Restorer and He wants your family to be successful in seeking him.
This isn’t about making a New Year’s resolution, this is about making the spiritual investment in the souls of your children your parenting priority above everything else and changing the culture of your home to align with what is most important to God. This is a change of direction and a long-term plan, just like with any other investment you make.
We want to support you here at Seeds and hope we are able to creatively inspire you in the next year with our songs written to God’s Word so that you and your children can know The One True God and walk with Him.
God bless you all as you head into the holidays and the new year.
