Seeds Family Worship Families, we hear you and we feel what you are feeling...
Have you had a day where you plop yourself down on the couch and think to yourself, “I’m done!!” You’ve dealt with messes, crying kids, and a crabby boss, and you’ve had enough! Not to mention the stack of dishes in the sink and the never-ending pile of laundry. The Bible has some instances of people feeling “done” too…
Recently, I was reading the story of Elijah, including the miracles and POWER of God that he had seen. Have you ever seen fire sent down from heaven in response to prayer? Yeah…Me neither. Talk about a spiritual high! However, shortly after Elijah witnessed this powerful demonstration of the Lord’s power, he found himself running for his life. While hiding in a cave, he actually begged the Lord to take his life. We could agree that he was “done.” What did he hear from the Lord in response to his self-pity? Chastisement? Ridicule? Telling him he was a disappointment? Nope.
Our good and gracious Father sent an angel to minister to Elijah-, bringing him food and water. He also rested. After that rest and refreshment from God, Elijah heard the still, small voice of the Lord. Maybe next time we are feeling “done,” we can remember how even Elijah felt the same way, and the Lord tenderly provided for and loved him through his difficult circumstances. We are not alone in feeling defeated.
Thank you, Lord, for the still, small voice and your loving kindness to us all.
