Welcome to our new blog series “How To Sing God’s Word Together."
We will explore the power of singing Scripture with our kids—and why it’s one of the most effective and joy-filled ways to help them know and love God. This first blog is by Seeds Founder Jason Houser and will give you an overall vision of the “why” behind singing God’s Word with your children both as a family as well as in your church community.
The “How To” series will continue with these highly practical guides to help you use the Seeds Kids Worship resources to have the highest impact on your kids:
- A Guide for Children’s Ministry Leaders
- A Guide for Parents and Families
- A Guide for Homeschool Groups & Co-ops
Whether you are new to Seeds kids Worship or have been with us for quite some time, we are confident that this series will encourage and equip you to make the most of your influence in your kids' lives. Our kids need to be surrounded by God’s truth so they can understand what matters most and to be able to know God and discern His plan for their lives.
Let’s jump into the book of Psalms with Jason Houser as he highlights the power of kids learning God’s Word.
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you, do not let me wander from your commandments. I have stored up your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:9-11
How can we help our children stay on the right path in these challenging times?
We can help them guard their way by teaching them God’s Word according to these powerful verses from Psalm 119. We want to teach our children to seek God so they don’t wander from His commandments - which will ultimately be what is best for them.
We want to help our kids do what King David did: STORE UP GOD’S WORD IN THEIR HEARTS!
When they do this, the psalm tells us it helps keep them from sin, or missing the mark.
How can we help our kids accomplish this as parents and children’s ministry leaders…
BY SINGING GOD’S WORD!
That is what we do at Seeds Kids Worship - we help kids, parents and churches sing God’s Word so they can store up His Truth in their hearts.
Throughout history, music has always been a powerful tool for memorizing and remembering God’s Word.
Today, we have incredible access to music and videos in our homes, our cars, our phones, computers, and ever giant screens in our church communities. We have been hard at work for over 20 years writing and recording music to God’s Word for kids and parents. During that time, so many worship artists, songwriters, musicians, churches, families, ministries have poured out their hearts, souls, voices, passion and prayers to record over 200 hundred scripture worship songs to help your kids know scripture! But even more than that, we want your kids to know the God of the Bible and choose for themselves to follow Him. Simply put, here’s what we believe at Seeds:
Kids Who Sing God’s Word Know God’s Word - and our deepest desire is for them to LOVE God.
Here are 3 Profound Ways You Can Impact Your Kids with God’s Word:
1. Listen to Seeds Kids Worship Music at Home and in Your Car
I listen to worship music every single day - and not just because I love music (which I do…I am listening to it now as I am writing this to you)- but because it is one of the most powerful ways for me to focus my attention on God and worship Him!
All of our songs are on music streaming platforms and we have created playlists for you to help you. Check them out here!
2. Watch Our Videos and Sing God’s Word Together on YouTube, Answers TV or Right Now Media
We have all of our kids' worship videos for free for families on YouTube, or you can play them at home or in your van as part of your subscription on Answers TV or RightNow Media.
If you are feeling brave, you can get up off the couch and do the fun and meaningful hand motions we have created with your kids. Lean into your child-like faith and use your body to encourage your kids and yourself to write scripture on your hearts - and also potentially kick up your BPM’s and get a little worship and exercise. (We will talk about more specific ideas for you in our next How To Series blog).
3. Lead Kids Worship at Your Local Church with Our Videos
One of the most impactful ways for kids to learn God’s Word is to sing it in community with other children and ministry leaders. Maybe God has given you a desire to lead kids in worship through teaching them these songs. You can find all of our kids worship videos for your church here with the option to purchase the lyric videos only, or both the lyric videos and hand motion videos.
We have also created worship chord charts for every one of our songs for free! Say what? Yeah, we did…and do you want to know why? Because we want to give you all of the tools possible to facilitate worship for your kids in your church communities and your homes. They are also an incredible resource to teach children how to play guitar or piano. Let’s work together to develop the next generation of worship leaders and give them a love for God’s Word and music simultaneously.
Final Thoughts
At the end of the story, here’s the heart of the matter…
We want to help you teach kids what matters most…to love God and experience Him in a life changing way.
1 Timothy 3:16 says “the Word of God is living and active…and sharper than any double edged sword…” and it speaks straight to our heart.
Let’s be God’s hands and feet and…
LET’S SING THE GOOD NEWS INTO THE HEARTS OF THE NEXT GENERATION.
A Chapter From My Salvation Story When I Was a Kid
I am SO GRATEFUL to the couple that took their summer vacation days to lead a wild group of teen age boys at a church camp in the mountains. It was in the heat of that dry Idaho summer that God spoke to me through His creation and I took my first steps into the River of Life. Not ironically, part of my salvation story was memorizing scripture in a camp contest and singing "Seek Ye First” from Matthew 6 around the campfire under a majestic display of stars.
You are God’s instrument to lead this next generation into worship and into their own relationship with God. So, I want to thank you on their behalf for the kids whose lives will be changed for eternity like mine was because of your faithfulness, your passion and your sacrifices.
Whatever sacrifices you make to teach The Gospel to kids will be worth it! I am confident of that.
And as we land our time here together, I also want to encourage you with Paul’s words from Philippians 1:6:
“Being confident of this, he who began a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
God bless you all!
