Story Behind the Song: So Much More
Abbey's Story Behind the Song:
Seeds has been part of my life literally from the very beginning. My Dad is Jason Houser, the one who started Seeds. He was recording the first songs that came out of a Vacation Bible School at our church in Tennessee, so we would listen to them at home and as we were riding in the car. I was part of the kids’ group that sang on the albums and also traveled with my Dad and helped lead Seeds Worship events with our family.
I have continued to sing and have been leading worship with Youth With a Mission and at my Christian College. I was so excited when my Dad asked me to sing the lead vocal on this song “So Much More”. This verse comes at the end of the book of John. It is a verse that can sneak past you if you are not paying attention, but it contains some amazing words about Jesus.
It tells us there is “so much more” that Jesus has done that is not contained in John’s letter. It tells us that the world could not contain the books that would have to be written to tell all that Jesus did. There is so much more!
I love to get to worship Jesus through music because He truly is worthy of our praise, focus and attention. He truly is “so much more” than we can imagine.
Jason's Story Behind the Song:
It has been an amazing gift for me as a Dad to get to create music with my kids over the years. It began with our children being part of the kids vocal team on the first Seeds albums recorded in Nashville, TN where we lived at the time. As the years flew by, our youngest daughter, Abigail, continued to sing on albums with our youth vocal team up until she graduated from high school. From there, she went to be part of Youth With a Mission and then to a Christian college in Montana. She has continued to sing and lead worship as a young adult, so it was a natural fit for me to invite her to sing as a Seeds Kids Worship leader.
This song, written from the last chapter of the book of John, was the first song she has led solo for Seeds Kids Worship. I can’t tell you how sweet it has been for me to see her continue to blossom in her gifting. I believe her voice on this song captures both the worship and wonder how Jesus is so much more than we can fathom. He is our Savior that promises to be with us and never to leave us. He is also full of compassion and ready to help us when we are in need. He has been so generous to me personally in giving me this opportunity to write and record these songs with our kids.
A little more of the story behind the recording of the song….Abigail’s older brother Ben Houser produced the music tracks in his recording studio in Nashville. He and I, along with her cousin Caleb Houser, played all of the instruments on the recording. And finally, Abigail’s other brother Brandon Houser created the music video for the song as well as this video with her for this blog. It truly has been a family collaboration!
We hope our family can encourage you to make Jesus the center of your story. Following Jesus and learning how to love God and love others is what brings true meaning to our families and gives us hope and strength for whatever you will face. We have been through many storms as a family - some which have felt like hurricanes hitting the coastline, but we have seen God’s faithfulness and He has sustained us through every one of them.
So, don’t lose heart as you face storms of your own - and as you raise your children to follow Jesus in this crazy moment of history that we are living in right now.. Lift your eyes to Him and remember He is “so much more” than anything you will encounter.
