The wise men, guided by a star, embarked on a long and arduous journey to find the newborn King. Imagine their joy when they finally saw the star shining brightly above the place where Jesus was! This wasn't just any star; it was a divine beacon leading them to the fulfillment of prophecy and the hope of the world.
Their response upon finding Jesus is threefold and offers us a model for our own worship:
Joyful reverence: "They were overjoyed... and they bowed down and worshipped him." Their hearts were filled with awe and wonder at the sight of the Christ child. True worship involves both exuberant joy and humble submission.
Generous giving: "They opened their treasures and presented him with gifts..." They offered valuable gifts, symbolizing Jesus' kingship, deity, and sacrifice. Our worship should also involve giving back to God our time, talents, and resources.
Obedient following: "Having been warned in a dream... they returned to their country by another route." They heeded God's warning and protected Jesus by altering their plans. True worship requires obedience to God's leading, even when it means changing our course.
Just like the wise men, we are called to follow the light of Christ. This involves cultivating a heart of joyful reverence, expressing our love through generous giving, and demonstrating obedience through our actions. Are we actively seeking Jesus and responding to His leading in our lives? Are we offering Him our best gifts and following Him wholeheartedly?
