Make the Most of Your Kids Worship For Easter

Equip Your Kids Worship Leaders For An Engaging Worship Experience This Easter

Leading worship for children is a unique form of worship leading. As a worship leader, I have always been drawn to the joy, wonder, and fun of helping children learn what it means to worship God in song. I want to encourage you specifically in this blog on how to prepare yourself or your kids worship team to make the most of your kids worship experience for this upcoming Easter season.

Here are 4 Powerful Ways To Make the Most of Your Kids Worship For Easter:

1. Begin Your Worship Session With a Joy-Filled Vision of Easter Worship

Share the Heart of Why We Celebrate This Special Day By Worshiping Jesus

It is always important to give your kids a biblical definition of worship…and Easter Sunday is a great opportunity to highlight the heart of worship for kids in a way they will understand and also give them a vision of why we worship in the first place.

Let me begin with how I like to define worship for younger children:

Worship is the response of our hearts to who God is and knowing He is more important than anything else!

Another way I like to talk about worship for kids is this:

Worship is when everything we are responds to everything God is.

What does it mean to respond? I use these examples to unpack what it means to respond:

  • What do you do when your favorite team wins a game? You cheer wildly!

  • What do you say when it is your birthday and someone who gives you an incredible present? You say thank you and show your appreciation.

So, on Easter we are responding to the amazing miracle moment when Jesus rose from the dead. What does that mean? It means that He won the victory over death for all who believe in Him - so we praise Him on this special day in response to that incredible miracle!

Our worship today is our RESPONSE to what Jesus has done for all who believe.

And then I will connect this scripture to Easter worship in order to share big picture The Gospel:

“Many of you may know the verse John 3:16. It tells us that “God so loved the world that He gave His only and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” God sent His son Jesus for a very important reason. Why you ask? Because we needed to have him come and save us from our sin. Jesus showed us the greatest love by choosing to die on the cross for the sins of all who would believe in Him...but that was not the end of the story - He was about to do one of the greatest miracles ever! And that miracle happened on Sunday morning. He was truly dead and buried in a grave - but he didn’t stay dead - instead, he PROVED He was who He said he was - The Son of God - and he showed everyone that He had the power over death.

We are going to talk more about that today - but we wanted to share that with you as we get ready our hearts ready to worship. We are celebrating by responding to the promise in the bible that we read from John 3:16 - that all who believe in him will be saved and be with Him forever in heaven.

That is why we are worshiping Him today!!!

2. Share a Psalm For Your Kids As You Launch Your Easter Worship

Give Your Kids a Biblical Picture of Worship

I will share this Psalm as a biblical picture of how we should enter into worship.

“Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth,

Worship the Lord with gladness

Come before Him with joyful songs

Know that the Lord is God”.

Psalm 100:1-3

And then I will tell them we are going to shout for joy this Easter Sunday because of who He is and what He has done. We are going to worship Him with gladness and KNOW that He is God!

3. Sing God’s Word In Your Easter Worship

Include Both Scripture Worship and Vertical Worship

Now, I know we are a ministry that creates scripture-based worship songs for kids, so of course I am going to tell you this…but I truly believe and have experienced there is a unique power and blessing in singing God’s Word in kids worship

My favorite worship leading experiences include both scripture-based worship songs and vertical worship songs (songs where kids can sing directly to God).

One of the greatest reasons for kids to sing scripture on Easter Sunday is that many children who come to your church for Easter for the first time will have the opportunity to take God’s Word home with them in their hearts through scripture songs that they learned. Our song “The Resurrection” from John 11:25-27 is one of the kids' favorite songs in the entire catalog of our scripture music - and it is a great opportunity to share with kids how Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead showed that He has the power over death. The video for this song (created by Church Visuals) is an animated journey through the Gospel for the kids to watch as they sing the scriptures.

I would also suggest “For God So Loved the World (John 3:16)” as part of your kids worship for Easter, especially if you shared John 3:16 as part of your Easter Worship vision. It is a strong Easter worship song because it is a fun song that engages kids (especially those new to church) and reinforces the Gospel truth.

4. Lead Songs Both With and Without Hand Motions For Your Easter Worship

You will find hand motion videos available for most popular kids worship songs. That being said, I think it is best to be thoughtful and intentional when you hand motions in order to teach kids different postures and expressions in worship. When I lead worship, I purposefully lead songs with and without hand motions in my worship sessions for this reason.

We spend a lot of time and energy at Seeds Kids Worship creating hand motion videos and I believe they can be an incredible way to engage kids in worship. And as I mentioned earlier, they can also provide another powerful tool in addition to the music to help kids commit the verses to memory.

One of our most streamed worship songs that is a great fit for Easter and has incredible hand motions is “More Than Conquerors” from Romans 8:37. It is an excellent song choice to launch your kids' Easter Worship session.

We hope these 4 Keys to kids worship for Easter will help your team to lead an engaging time of worship this year!
