How One Homeschool Mom is Using Seeds Kids Worship to Reach her Kids (Part 1)

How One Homeschool Mom is Using Seeds Kids Worship to Reach her Kids

As I stood there waving, tears running down my face, I realized there was only one thing I cared about.

My husband and I had just launched our first arrow and watching her drive down our driveway on the 735-mile drive in her silver Ford was making my heart ache. She was leaving our home for a year internship in Florida and though I couldn’t be happier for her, I knew I was going to miss her so much. After the last glimpse of her car was gone, we walked back inside and I realized that the only thing I cared about was if my daughter was going to follow Jesus. It didn’t matter what grades she had gotten, what activities she had partaken in, or really anything else for that matter. The only thing that mattered at this point was if she was going to follow the Lord with her whole heart, mind, and strength. Did she have what it takes to follow Jesus in a world that would love for her to turn her back on Him? Did she have God’s word hidden in her heart so she could take a stand and remain firm in her faith?

That morning as I sat and studied with my other six kids, I realized all the more how important it is to be intentional with my parenting. As we all know too well, time goes so fast. Activities, sports, church events, friends, parties, school, the list goes on and on. I want to make sure that I am being intentional with my kids to know that by the time they leave my house they have a good understanding of the word and they have the word hidden in their heart.

One way I have been working towards this goal is by using Seeds Kids Worship with my kids. I am not perfect at this, and have way more ideas and plans than I actually execute, but I am working at it. One thing we have done is each Sunday night we do family worship. We each share a scripture that we have been touched by in our daily reading throughout the week. We share prayer requests and pray for each other. Then we worship together always using a Seeds song. Throughout the week we listen and review old Seeds songs we have learned.

Another way I work to help hide God’s word in their heart is to incorporate it in correction and training of my kids. For example, the other day one of my kids was asking about watching a particular show. The verse (and song) came to mind and we discussed the scripture of things we should think about: true, nobel, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, praise-worthy. I then have been using that song each day this week as part of the time I spend with my kids so we can work on memorizing it.

I have so much to learn about parenting and how to raise Godly kids. I am thankful to have resources like Seeds Family Worship available to help with training my kids.
