It was the call that every parent dreads from the moment their teen sits behind the wheel of a car. There had been an accident involving our two teenage daughters while on their way to church. A distracted driver rear ended them going way too fast. After arriving at the accident scene I realized how blessed we were that they were alive. A trip to the ER, scans, staples in one daughter’s head, whiplash recovery, and chiropractor visits, they were on their way to physical healing.
Soon enough our discussions turned to the next car our teen would be buying as the wrecked automobile would never see the road again. We thoroughly researched used cars for their dependability, price and value, and you guessed it- safety ratings.
Do you know it’s possible to go slightly crazy during this process? I digress…
My husband went with our teen and purchased herself a good looking, (hopefully) dependable car with excellent crash test ratings.
That night as we were discussing the car a Seeds song came to mind that my teen knew from years past- We Trust. “Some trust in Chariots (cars and crash test ratings) some in horses, (well, we don’t have one of those but one can always dream, right??) but WE TRUST IN THE NAME OF THE LORD.” My daughters and I talked about how our trust is in the Lord- nothing else. Granted we want to make wise decisions and do our due diligence, but then we leave it up to God.
Who knew that a simple scripture song learned years before could be so impactful later? It was a good reminder to me to keep pressing on in the task of raising kids who love to learn God’s word.
