Do You Believe This? An Easter Family Devotional on Jesus and The Resurrection

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me though he die, yet shall he live…do you believe this?” - John 11:25 & 26b

An Easter Family Devotional on One Powerful Question

This Easter family devotional is centered on one of the most powerful questions Jesus ever asked. We have been in the middle of a sermon series at our home church in Nashville about the questions Jesus asked in His ministry. He asked many life-altering questions like, What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and yet forfeit his soul?”. Jesus asked Martha a profound question right before He raised Lazarus from the dead. I believe it is one of the most important questions Jesus asked then…and that He is still asking now as we approach our Easter celebration this year.

Martha met Jesus on his way to Bethany after her brother Lazarus had died. She told him that if only He had been there she believed Lazarus would not have died, and even now God would give him whatever he asked.

She believed.

And Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again”.

In my mind, I see her falling at Jesus’ feet in her grief as she said those words to him. I then see him reach out his hand to her and lift her to her feet and tell her the deep truth about who He is…”I am the resurrection and the life”. He was letting her know that He has the power over death...and he was also telling her she was about to see that truth unfold in living color right before her very own eyes.

After he said these words to her, I believe he paused and then asked her the question…

Do you believe this?

And she said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe you are the Christ, the Son of God who has come into the world.”

Jesus went with Martha to Bethany and did one of His greatest miracles by bringing Lazarus back from the dead. Lazarus heard Jesus call his name and literally came out of the tomb in his grave clothes! The crowd was in complete awe of what Jesus had done…and many people believed in Him.

They believed!

This is the question Jesus wants all of us to answer as we gather together to celebrate Easter.

Do we believe?

Do we believe Jesus is The Resurrection and The Life? Did He really conquer death and provide the way for our sins to be forgiven? Because of God’s great love, did He send His only Son Jesus so that all who BELIEVE will have eternal life?

I believe He did!

So we encourage you to ask this question this Easter season around your table, in your living room, or with kids in your children’s ministry.

Do YOU believe that Jesus truly is The Resurrection and The Life?

If so, let me ask you one final question.

What is the next step Jesus is asking you to take as you follow him personally and as a family?

Let’s lean into the lives that Jesus is calling us to live for Him.

Let’s follow Him wherever He leads us…up the mountain or through the valley.

He sent His Spirit - so we know He lives in us and will be with us wherever we go.

He Is Risen!
