5 Tools to Continue Teaching the Resurrection in Your Home

5 Tools to Continue Teaching the Resurrection in Your Home

Let’s use this verse from Deuteronomy 6 to continue teaching about Jesus Christ after Easter Sunday.

Deuteronomy 6: 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Let’s explore this through verse 7.

1. Talk of these words in your house (“sit in your house”)

Read Acts 1:6-11 together as a family.

  •  Talk about God’s plan in saving the world. Jesus came to earth and was 100% God and 100% human. He sent the Holy Spirit to be with us and help us share about The Good News. Now in heaven Jesus sits on the throne as King, but he will return one day for all who believe in him.

Ask your children, How does Jesus bring us into God’s family?

  • Talk about how Jesus is our King. Paul in Romans 8 wrote, “Christ died and was raised to life, and now he is at God’s right side, speaking to him for us.” It’s an image of Jesus sitting next to God reigning as King. His ascension and being seated next to God describes Jesus as the King.

Ask your children, What can you pray for that will help you serve God and build your faith?

  • Talk about what we do now. Jesus’ ascension sent the church on its mission to make disciples of all nations and to teach everything that Jesus said. And so we stop “looking up into the sky” and turn to reach the lost, hurt and anxious people in our community and ultimately the world.

Go for Walk or a Hike together (“walk by the way”)

Don’t forget to bring along a basket or bucket to collect stones.

  • Find stones along the way

Look for 11 flat stones and store them in your basket or bucket for when you get back home.

Then, let your child wash the stones and lay them out in the sun to dry (if needed, you can also let them dry inside during the cooler months).

  • Paint each stone to tell the story from John 20:19-31.

Read the story of Jesus appearing to his disciples and then paint the rocks to retell the story.

During your Bedtime: Your Tuck in Time (“when you lie down”)

Read 1 Peter 1:3-9 together

Discuss these with your children:

  • What is an inheritance? An inheritance is a special privilege or right that is passed down to you from someone else when they die. You have to be related to the person who passed away or they have to have added you to their will.
  • Jesus gives us a special inheritance, even though he's still alive. Because Jesus died and rose again, we can all be called children of God. Like this Scripture says, even though we can't see him right now, we love him and believe in him. Our life in Jesus fills us with so much joy!
  • As children of God, we have unlimited access to God, so that means we can meet with Jesus every day.
  • Let’s say a bedtime prayer together right now.

Rise and Shine (“when you rise”)

“Rise and Shine and give God the Glory, glory”

    • Begin your day with worship! Sing this new song as you start your day and put on the Armor of God. Prepare your heart to stand firm and commit to keep your eyes on Jesus. Then, pray for God to protect you from any evil that may come your way.

Create your own idea

Now it’s your turn to create a fun idea with your family! Find scripture that continues telling about Jesus’ Resurrection and explore ideas that your family likes to do together to learn God’s Word.

We would love to hear what your family created. Comment below with the ideas you created with your family!
